The story of The Kitchen goes hand-in-hand with the story of Websolutions.ca. Our very first CMS - aptly named “wsCMS” - was born the same year as our company in 2004. As Josh toiled away at PHP from a small CCNB classroom, he was unknowingly setting the foundation for what would one day become his company’s flagship CMS.

While wsCMS was powerful for its time, it would only continue to grow and evolve right alongside Websolutions.ca, eventually incorporating the robust coding language “Ruby on Rails", which we continue using to this day. If it ain't broke, don’t fix it!

After more than 10 years and several iterations later, we finally began advertising the capabilities of our CMS to potential clients in 2015. All it needed was a new and improved name; one that embodied the kind of flexibility and versatility this CMS was capable of.

While lounging around in the office kitchen one day, Josh had his epiphany. What’s a place where you have easy access to all the tools and ingredients you need, all while maintaining control over what goes where and who does what? That’s right: the kitchen!

With a fitting name and a lot to prove, The Kitchen was officially rolled out to the world in 2015, and the rest is history. Since its introduction, over 150 businesses have taken advantage of its arsenal of features to empower their brand. Today, The Kitchen serves as the backbone for all our clients’ websites, allowing businesses and brands to take full control of their site’s content on their terms.

Great things happen in the kitchen, and ours is no different. While The Kitchen can do all sorts of neat tricks, its biggest contributions to the success of our clients are its flexibility and usability. Our sites are designed from the get-go to be as user-friendly as possible while still fulfilling the specific needs of our clients and their respective industries. But what goes on behind the scenes that makes The Kitchen so slick and intuitive? According to our Lead Programmer, Patrick, the secret ingredient is modules.

In The Kitchen, modules are the main course. Every module we design is intentionally built from the ground up to serve a specific purpose, meaning no two are ever exactly alike. On top of that, these modules are built with fully integrated bilingual support and are always made with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and security in mind, making them as safe as they are effective.

Perhaps the best part about modules is their accessibility and, by extension, the level of control they afford our clients. Once a site is completed and the modules are built and integrated, we create a secure login for the client that grants them access to the site’s backend - the “behind-the-scenes” area of a website that most people won’t ever see.

From there, the client is free to change or move content around, upload or remove images and videos, input and manage vast amounts of data, and make other backend changes that would otherwise require some level of coding knowledge to achieve. Rather than calling us just to update a few words or images on their site, our clients get the luxury of taking matters into their own hands without the usual barrier of entry - and it’s all thanks to The Kitchen!
